Metallicity dependent calibrations of flux based SFR tracers
We present new calibrations of the widely used Hα , [OII] , and UV luminosity vs. star formation rate (SFR) relations. Using our evolutionary synthesis code GALEV we compute the different calibrations for 5 metallicities, from 1/50 solar up to 2.5 solar. We find significant changes in the calibrations for lower metallicities compared to the standard calibrations using solar input physics.
متن کاملStellar collisions during binary–binary and binary–single star interactions
Physical collisions between stars occur frequently in dense star clusters, either via close encounters between two single stars, or during strong dynamical interactions involving binary stars. Here we study stellar collisions that occur during binary–single and binary–binary interactions, by performing numerical scattering experiments. Our results include cross sections, branching ratios, and s...
متن کاملBranes, Calibrations and Supergravity
These notes are based on lectures given at the Clay School on Geometry and String Theory, Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge, 25 March 19 April 2002. They attempt to provide an elementary and somewhat self contained discussion of the construction of supergravity solutions describing branes wrapping calibrated cycles, emphasising the geometrical aspects and focusing on D=11 supergravity. Followin...
متن کاملThe Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (sfr)
The Sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) features a closed fuel cycle for efficient conversion of fertile uranium and management of minor actinides. A full actinide-recycle fuel cycle is envisioned with two major options: One involves intermediatesized (150 to 500 MWe) sodium-cooled fast reactors with uranium-plutonium-minor-actinidezirconium metal alloy fuel, supported by a fuel cycle based on pyr...
متن کاملCalibrations and Intersecting Branes
We investigate the solutions of Nambu-Goto-type actions associated with calibrations. We determine the supersymmetry preserved by these solutions using the contact set of the calibration and examine their bulk interpretation as intersecting branes. We show that the supersymmetry preserved by such solutions is closely related to the spinor singlets of the subgroup G of Spin(9, 1) or Spin(10, 1) ...
